Connecting a Google Classroom Calendar to Your Group

Connecting a Google Classroom Calendar to Your Group

Overview

When creating an assignment in Google Classroom, a calendar event is automatically created for the assignment in the associated Google Calendar. This calendar can then be linked to a ReachWell Group.

Instructions

Please begin by viewing this brief video.

Instructions

Step 1: Log in to Google Classroom and open the class you would like connected to your ReachWell Group

  1. From the top navigation menu, select Classwork.
  2. Click on the Google Calendar option. This will open up your Google Calendar in a new tab.

Step 2: Update you Calendar Settings and locate your Google Classroom Calendar ID

  1. Select the Settings icon in your Google Calendar.

  1. Select the calendar for the class that you would like connected to your ReachWell Group.

  1. Set the correct timezone for the calendar.

  1. Select Make available to public in order that this calendar will be available to your group's contacts once it is connected to your ReachWell group.

  1. Locate and copy the Calendar ID under the Integrate Calendar heading.

Step 3: Paste the Calendar ID into your ReachWell Group Profile
  1. Navigate to your Dashboard > Organizations > Groups page.
  2. Select the Calendar > Update option for the group you would like connected to your Google Classroom Calendar.

  1. From the Group's profile page, select the Activate Google Calendar option.

  1. Paste the Calendar ID in the Google Calendar ID box.
  2. Select Submit.

Step 4 (optional): Adding Additional Events to your Google Classroom Calendar

  1. Google Classroom will automatically create calendar events in the associated calendars for any assignments you create. However, you may want to add additional events like class meeting times, or class activities. To do this, you will add those events directly to your Google Calendar.
  2. When adding events to the Google Classroom Calendar, make sure you are assigning the event to the correct calendar, and not your own personal calendar.
  3. The default calendar in Google will be your personal calendar, so it is important to select the appropriate calendar using the Google Calendar icon.

  1. Once the new event is saved to your Google Calendar, the contacts associated with the connected ReachWell Group will see that event.

Troubleshooting Missing Events

If a calendar event is not showing in ReachWell from a synced calendar, there are typically two reasons why this would occur
  1. The calendar that is synced to ReachWell is not being shared publicly. Visit THIS article for Google Calendar instructions.
  2. Or, the event was added to your personal calendar rather than the calendar synced to ReachWell.
