Public vs. Private Groups
Overview
This article provides insight into the two types of groups in ReachWell (public and private). Organizations utilizing our First Class plan can create either private or public groups for Group Admins to manage. Organizations utilizing our Economy plan can create public groups only. Groups are created on the organizational level, and are typically managed by Group Admins. In a snapshot, here are the key differences between public and private groups.
Public Groups
For organizations utilizing our First Class plan, when you create a new group in ReachWell to communicate with contacts (i.e. families) you can choose either private or public groups. Organizations utilizing our Economy plan can create public groups only. Public groups allow two to three options for joining contacts (i.e. families) to groups: - Contacts and families must either join the group(s) themselves from their ReachWell app.
- Or, the group(s) can be automatically assigned to all contacts who have downloaded ReachWell to their device and joined your school or organization.
- For organizations utilizing our First Class plan, the group(s) can be assigned to specific contacts who have downloaded ReachWell to their device and joined your school or organization. However, we always recommend using private groups instead when possible!
Our
Free Forever clients will have one public group that all contacts and families are automatically added to when they download the ReachWellt app and join your organization.

ReachWell groups are great for announcements that should not go out to your entire school or organizational community. Groups provide the ability to send targeted a
nnouncements to contacts (i.e. families) that belongs to specific groups. For example, you can send out
announcements to contacts for students that belong to a specific grade, class or athletic team.
For organizations utilizing our
First Class plan, when you create a new group in ReachWell to communicate with contacts (i.e. families) you can choose either private or public groups. If you want to send a a
nnouncement to
all of your contacts (i.e. families), there is no need to create a group for all families because you can select your entire school when publishing a a
nnouncement if desired.
